At High Peaks Kitchen, the star of the show is undoubtedly the food. From their perfectly spiced Malai Kofta—three mixed vegetable balls immersed in a rich saffron curry—to the creamy and comforting Vegi Korma, which highlights assorted vegetables enveloped in a delightful tikka masala sauce, each dish is a testament to their culinary prowess. Vegetarian options shine with specials like Broccoli Tikka Masala and Alo Tikka Masala, each offering a hearty experience at just $11.49.
But what if you're in the mood for poultry? High Peaks Kitchen has that covered too! Madras Chicken, infused with Madras herbs and drenched in coconut milk, served warm and topped with grated coconut, dazzles the palate. The Qasuri Chicken, featuring fenugreek and garlic paste, is another must-try for $11.99 that never disappoints.
The ambiance is simple yet warm, with friendly service that makes you feel at home. Though it may be a small spot, it thrives on delivering great food and genuine hospitality. The menu prices are friendly on the wallet, allowing you to indulge without breaking the bank. Plus, if you're looking for a cozy meal at home, their takeout and delivery service is efficient and reliable.
Alas, it saddens us to hear that High Peaks Kitchen has recently closed its doors, leaving behind a myriad of fond memories and delicious dishes cherished by its loyal customers. From Vanesa L.'s heartfelt fondness for their offerings to Den Paul Aquino C.'s appraisal of their culinary excellence, it's clear that the love for this kitchen runs deep.
We at Foodjoyy will miss High Peaks Kitchen profoundly, but we remain grateful for the culinary journeys it provided. For anyone who was lucky enough to savor their creations, the flavors will linger in your memory long after those doors have closed. Here's to the good times and the incredible food!
“ Very sad news that this location is now closed. We tried Indian food from this place years ago and were loyal ever since. Everything we tried was an absolute delight. Wishing them well!! ”
“ They just announced they've permanently closed. This is terrible news. High Peaks Kitchen was a terrific, employee-owned restaurant run by wonderful, delightful people. I'd drive there from Orinda whenever I wanted terrific Indian and Tibetan food. High Peaks Kitchen will be terribly missed! ”
“ The food is star here. Great food and friendly service. Very small place. Best for take out / delivery. Great prices. Coconut lamb and beingan bharta our faves. Paneer tika masala my kids fave . ”
“ We order so often that my your son said of their chicken tikka his favorite, " when I get my drivers license I'm going to pick up High Peaks every day." Ok Olivia Rodrigo ... you go on with your bad self. And bonus is how nice the family that runs it is. ”
“ Bro, if you're craving some killer Indian food, High Peaks Kitchen is where it's at! The Chicken Tikka Masala? Absolute fire, man. And don't even get me started on the garlic naan--soft, buttery, and perfect for soaking up all that saucy goodness. The crew here is super chill and friendly, which is always a plus. Only bummer? They don't throw in the rice for free. Like, what? Gotta fork out extra for the carbs? C'mon, bro! But seriously, the food smacks. Worth the trip for sure. ”
“ Was craving some Indian food and decided to try a new spot. Overall it was okay, not fantastic but scratched the itch. The lassi was quite bland, as was the tikka. Probably not somewhere I'd return, but good in a pinch. ”
“ I had a lovely Diwali lunch with my family here and I'd definitely be back. The menu was simple and each dish we ordered was delicious. The bhindi stood out for me. The food was flavorful and not overly oily. There's not a whole lot of seating and the indoor space felt a bit tight so we sat outside. So far though this has been one of our favorite Indian restaurants in Oakland! ”
“ We got takeout for dinner from High Peaks Kitchen and it was good. This is a small, humble Indian restaurant that opened on College Ave in Rockridge in March 2014. The owners/staff are from Tibet, which is probably how the restaurant name came to be. High Peaks has a fairly extensive menu with many Indian staples including various curries, biryani, and tandoori dishes. They serve meat, seafood, and vegetarian dishes. Here's what we ordered and picked up: * L04. Lamb Vindaloo ($15.50) - boneless lamb cooked with potatoes and a spicy vindaloo sauce * P09. Chicken Coconut ($14.49) - boneless white meat chicken cooked with coconut and spicy sauce * V17. Chana Masala ($13.49) - garbanzo beans with curry sauce * V07. Mushroom Masala ($13.99) - mushroom cooked with onion, tomato, and spices * BR4. Garlic Naan ($3.75) - fresh bread cooked in a clay oven and topped with minced garlic and cilantro Everything was still warm and delicious when we had it at home. My favorite item was the Chana Masala. It had great texture and flavor. I couldn't stop eating it. Generally, all of the food tasted fresh and of good quality. The lamb was tender and the vindaloo sauce wasn't too spicy. The Chicken Coconut was okay. It wasn't my favorite because I'm not the biggest fan of white meat chicken. The Mushroom Masala was good. It was packed with umami. The Garlic Naan was very tasty and essential to our meal, I think. Plain white basmati rice also came with our entrees. Overall, the meal was satisfying and hit the spot for all of us. This was for three adults and two kids, and we were full afterwards. Service was good. Everything was packed nicely to-go. High Peaks is a solid neighborhood restaurant that my sister and her family are regulars at. This was my first time trying the food and I would gladly eat it again. ”
